Part Ⅲ Reading Comprehension

Catching fish from oceans, lakes and streams is not only the most popular but probably the oldest pastime pursued by human beings. Thousands of years ago, people caught fish in nets and traps. They also fashioned hooks from bones and stones. Taking fish with nets for food is called commercial fishing. Fishing with a hook and line for fun is called sport fishing.

Perhaps the greatest appeal in fishing for fun is the opportunities it offers to go outdoors, to enjoy the company of friends and to use new and various skills to catch the fish.

In fishing, a set of ethics exists based on consideration for others. One's job is to take no more fish than one needs. Some of the best fishers catch fish for the spirit of it and then release them unharmed for someone else to catch. The sport methods a person uses in catching fish and the consideration shown for others while fishing are the marks distinguishing a true fisher.

Young people are also attracted by the intrinsic and unique charm of countless traditional cultural treasures waiting to be discovered.

Social media platforms have become vital for museums to promoting themselves. Douyin's 2023 Museum Data Report states that the total number of views of museum-related videos on the platform last year reached about 5l.3 billion, 66 times the annual number of museum visitors nationwide, which in turn brings life to traditional Chinese culture again.

Stonehenge (巨石阵) is an ancient monument of huge stones standing on the great Salisbury Plain (索尔兹伯里平原) in England. It was constructed before 2000 BC, but exactly why it was built is still unknown. Local residents said it was once built as a healing center, a place where people went to try to get better. However, some scientists believed that Stonehenge was just built for religious purposes.

As the most enjoyable historic remains on Earth, Stonehenge has grabbed people's attention for centuries. The mystery of these blue stones is that they are only found in the Brescelly Mountains in south Wales, nearly 150 miles away. It was a huge job to transport these stones from Wales, because originally there were about 80 of them weighing up to four tons each. The stones were brought by boat from the mountains and pulled from the coast by sledge to the site. It needed at least 150 people, simply to move one of these stones. However, building Stonehenge was much more complex. It was not just simply one stone piled on top of another; they were joined together.

After nearly 5,000 years Stonehenge is still standing. Though many of the stones have fallen, Stonehenge still attracts nearly five thousand tourists every day. We now know how it was built. However, the question "why" is a bit more problematic. Nature may know all the answers well but science has yet to prove its theories. It seems that Stonehenge isn't ready to disclose all its secrets to human beings just yet.

Using too much water and throwing rubbish into our rivers are clear ways that humans can put our water supply in danger but we also affect our water supply in less obvious ways. You may wonder how paving (铺砌) a road can lead to less usable fresh water. A major part of the water we use every day is groundwater. Groundwater does not come from lakes or rivers. It comes from underground. The more roads and parking lots we pave, the less water can flow into the ground to become groundwater.

Human activity is not responsible for all water shortages (短缺). Areas with drier climates are of course more likely to have droughts (干旱) than those with more rainfall, but in any case, good management can help to make sure there is enough water to meet our basic needs.

Thinking about the way we use water every day can make a big difference, too. In the United States, a family of four can use l.5 tons of water a day! This shows how much we depend on water to live, but there's a lot we can do to lower the number.

You can take steps to save water in your home. To start with, use the same glass for your drinking water all day. Wash it only once a day. Run your dishwasher (洗碗机) only when it is full. Help your parents fix any leaks or dripping taps in your home. You can even help to keep our water supply clean by recycling batteries instead of throwing them away.

41、What is the first paragraph mainly about?______

A.Why throwing rubbish can put our water supply in danger.

B.How we affect our water supply.

C.How building roads leads to water shortages.

D.Why water comes from underground.

42、Which of the following can help tackle water shortages according to the second paragraph?______

A.Changing our water needs.

B.Preventing droughts.

C.More rainfall.

D.Good management.

43、The underlined word "dripping" in the last paragraph probable means "______".

A.supplying clean water

B.producing small drops of water

C.containing large amounts of water

D.moving on the surface of water

44、What is the topic of the last paragraph?______

A.How to conserve water at home.

B.How to repair leaking taps.

C.How to wash drinking glasses.

D.How to keep our water supply clean.

45、What does the author advise us to do to help keep our water supply clean?______
